Babe's always been unabashedly preppy, with the exception of several rather iffy years as a goth teen queen. So it goes without saying, she considers madras to be an essential part of her wardrobe. A subtle way to do plaid is a cute canvas sneaker or slip-on. This summer, Babe hopes to add quite a few such items to her shoe closet. Sugar Status Pie (at right) is a darling wedge that comes in green or pink plaid for $52.90, and can be worn with shorts, jeans or a skirt. Sugar also offers flats ($39.95) in the same pattern. You can't go wrong with a classic like these Converse All-Stars ($47). The Nollie navy madras shoe ($34), with its patchwork plaid detail and sweet bow, is another fave. And the Roxy navy and red Pepperdine slip-on ($40) is just perfect when you need to dash out in the morning for coffee.
